Final Project on the way...
I've just watched American Idol on Star World today and I don't like what the judges said. There were 7 people left on the competition, and they were Fantasia, Jennifer, La Toya, Jasmine, Diana, John Stevens, and George.
All of them definetely can sing well and have fans of their own. Last week was my favourite show, coz they sung Barry Manillow's hits and sung them really well. Better than when they were singing Elton John's songs or the Hollywood Soundtracks.
And on tonight show, someone had to leaved for good. They split the 7 contestants into 2 groups; The Top Group and The Bottom Group. At first we didn't realize which group was the top, and which group is the bottom three...
But it was kinda "shocking" coz the first group was all black and the second was all white (well, actually Jasmine is half Chinese- half Hawaiian)... so when George was chosen as one of the top group that night he just stepped into the black group
(was it becoz Seacrest said they have Diva quality or was it becoz he is black, too? i dunno...). All people in the studio was shocked when they know that the bottom 3 were "the Diva"! But I am not. Actually I have predicted that the Top Group was going to be either Jasmine or John
(becoz they both have captured audience's heart and have their own community of fans). Well, finally Jennifer Hudson got voted out of the competiton, which I think it was the right decission. Why? Because since the very beginning of the final she's the one who often got less votes out of all finalists.
While John and Jasmine always seems to have a smooth road. From this point you can tell that Jennifer doesn't have the star quality that people are looking for. I admit that she has become beter and better 'till the end (at last week performance I think she was the best and John was the worst),
but she doesn't have a star quality (quality is not just voice or looks...), I can't really tell what is it but I just an't see her as the winner of American Idol. At this point, Elton John said on the newspaper that American Idol viewers are being racist... well, maybe it's true (hey, what do I know anyway... I can't vote)
maybe it's not. Maybe people just wanted an idol that is not similar like Ruben. Say it harshly... they want more of a Will Young or Clay Aiken. Hmm, since now both Ruben and Clay had had their own album, I can tell that Clay is gonna be more famous then Ruben. Ruben... well, how do I say it... he will always be recognized as the winner of American Idol...
but Clay... in years from now he has the chance to be recognized as a talented SINGER or even win any Awards. And it's even more better for him since he was not winning coz he has less burden on him. Actually, when I saw his first clip "Invinsible" I still didn't have a clue of who he is... which is a good thing coz he sings well.
I like his new song "The Way", but I even like him more when he sang "Solitaire"... Damn! He is good. He made me actually fall in love for that oldies song that I have never liked before. Isn't that something? :)
Anyway, since then I started to follow American Idol contest. Watching terrible damn pathetic lucky contestant like William Hunk (maan! How can he let himself to be "mock" like that... Yeaa he is famous now, but people would always recognized him as a pathetic entertainer, not as a real SINGER :/ I hate to say that coz I am Chinese too...), Hawaiian innocent girl Jasmine Triaz,
funny charismatic George, 16-year-old unique John Stevens (i like him since he first sung among the Twelve Finalists), a church based hip singer Fantasia, et cetera. I like John Stevens the most! Coz I am a music lover, a Jazz lover, and I think his voice is perfect for Pop or Jazzy tunes. Maybe not for wide range of listeners, but I think from all of the contestants he could be the one that can be a legendary singer. Coz a voice like his will never grow old and forgotten by time. People will always enjoy them in any decades and era.
Well I know that I would definetely buy his album if he release one! If he could only picked right song and not singing "Mandy" or any sappy melancholy songs... my God, he is 16! What can u expect from a 16 year-old-boy when he sings a love song :/ Maybe he himself still hasn't figured out what love is... but yea, we can give him time to grow and if he keeps his cool attitude and learn to control his voice day by day... I'm sure that he will become a great singer. He has a similar type voice like Michael Buble (I will not say Sinatra coz I'm sick of hearing it from the judges, especially Randy). The judges were very cruel saying that people should pick the "DIvas" over the other group. Man, that's harsh! Could u even imagine how they felt? How did John Stevens felt at that time? Even though the judges have their own preferences, still they shouldn't say their underestimate opinions out loud. They definetey would destroy the confidence of the underestimate group. Especially John, coz he did sing terrible last week. And I think he is perfectly aware of that without even need to be harshly critizised. Maan, right on that moment maybe he just wished to be voted out of the group for good. But i still want him in the competition. Big salute for him coz he could survived under the pressure. Even though at last, he didn't survive at the Top 5. Well, i like Simon Cowell that always speaks his mind honestly. Sharp, vivid, cruel, but from the heart. I think they don't need to emphasize that American Idol is a talent search Contest... coz, hey, what do expect... They have put "Idol" word on the title of the show. Hehehe. But what do I know... I am not a profesional. I just like to analyze things and speak up whatever I believe to be true...
