Sekitar pukul 11.45, jenazah mantan Presiden Soeharto tiba di Astana Giribangun...
The Age: Indonesia's former dictator Soeharto, a five star general and mystic who ruled the world's most populous Muslim nation for 32 often tumultuous years, has died in a Jakarta hospital. He was 86.
Although I think there's nothing we could do to prosecute him further more, and that we should forgive his mistakes in the past... for making us useless, for making us believe in all lies, for making us closed our eyes to the world, for making us such a stupid spoiled nation...
Still that doesn't mean we have to grieve over his absence. The nation is doing just fine without him. Yes, the dollar rate is probably crazy high, tempe-tahu probably not affordable anymore, criminality and strike actions probably higher, but...
We have a freedom of speech now. Nobody is limiting what we see-what we hear through television and radio... cable TV operators are competing... Back in those days, this was banned, that was banned. If you were stupid enough, you'd easily believe that everything is alright... that G30S PKI history was just like they showed on TV (being played every damn year!), that Borobudur was one of the 7 wonders of the world (juz like they printed on the freakin' education curriculum book), that big corruption is okay as long as you catch the small fish thieves and killed them on the street... Never mess the beautiful picture.
No more monopoly in trade. Remember back in those days when Telkom was the only operator that serve the whole country? Pertamina was the only source of energy supplier (meanwhile the quality is not well-maintained and it can rule the price demand)
We can celebrate Chinese New Year. It's now become the national holiday, and many cultural events and emerges have been developed and came out to the surface since then... They were all hidden for decades.
We don't have to feed the "legendary family". A family which has been saving lots of resources, power, and money out of our innocence. Not far different than a mob family we've seen in movies. May God have mercy on them.
So, if you ask me, do I feel sorry for him... for his family? Yes, I feel sorry becuz they simply don't value the truth... But I don't grieve for them.
