Hear, See, and Feel Mumbai- My Perspective on Slomdog Millionaire

If you happen to miss the buzz on Hollywood and movie world, well, The Academy Awards has made one more foreign country proud for taking 8 Oscars... Yup, India thanks to "Slumdog Millionaire", a movie about hardships and adventures that one boy has to get through in order to survive in his hometown, Mumbai. Eventhough the boy had traveled around (one time he and his big brother settled in Agra), but his heart always come back to Mumbai, where his beloved childhood friend is also struggling by herself. Jamal, Salim, and Latika are just a few of many abandoned faces in India, the most populated country in the world (competing with China).

The movie really reminds me of how Mumbai feels... Watching the movie was like a nostalgia, because they are all there: the sound of crows, the contruction workers who woke me up every morning, the rickshaw noises.... and of course, Juhu, a famous suburban in Bombay that once was filled with Bollywood stars (including, who else, Amitabachan!! -lol-), and also the place where my hunny grew up and spend his childhood. He took me on a "Juhu scheme tour" (too bad we missed the cycling plan ya) and showed me all the streets, the famous buildings, the beach... Prithvi theatre, the place where we watched "Hamlet" play is also located in Juhu (I like the cafe, too). Well, now the area has changed a lot according to my hunny. His family house has become "Joy and Elegance" apartment, and I could see that so many houses had turned into apartments as well.

Yes it's dusty, yes it's noisy, and yes, it's kinda smelly in some areas... but you'll find yourself evolve as a tougher individual. There is no time to waste, there is no food to spare, while every Paise counts. I'm glad that a movie like "Slumdog Millionaire" can be a great eye-opener (hopefully many people would like to adopt Indian children, too) Well, in my case, I guess the movie just reminded me of my hunny more :p About how the movie became such a huge hit and won Golden Globe and Oscars, hmmm, maybe like he said, "it's India time"... people all over the world are drown into its culture and heritage; the food, the spiritual activities, the yoga, the fashion... (I personally love the food above all!). Well done, Boyle! Well done all Indian casts! Let's just pray that God will always take care and protect children like Jamal, Salim, and Latika.
