Greece pulled off arguably the biggest shock at a major football championship as a goal by Angelos Charisteas gave them victory at UEFA EURO 2004™. Having begun the tournament as 80-1 outsiders, the achievement of Otto Rehhagel's team of European journeymen is hard to put into perspective, but once again the belief they have shown in themselves throughout this amazing adventure was too strong for their opponents.
Portugal thus became the first host nation to lose a UEFA European Championship final and they will have to wait at least another two years to claim their first senior title. For the likes of Luís Figo and Rui Costa it was an agonising end to glittering international careers, but the Portuguese players can still look back with pride on the joy they have provided for their supporters over the past three weeks... (continue the full detail story by Adam Szreter at the official Euro 2004 site).
So, how many of us could predicted that Greek would won the Euro cup? Geesh, maybe only 0.2% of total viewers or even less! I bet this year there are plenty people lose their bet, coz they bet on ordinary winning teams; countries like France, England, Spain, Czech, or Portugal as this year host. I can still remember vividly how one of my friends who is staying at Europe now is kinda convinced that France with their Zinedine Zidane would easily beat other countries that were left in semi finals. Hhhh, but then again... i had lost my favourite team long before semi finals too... Spain. With their ohh-so-hot-dynamite player Rauuul Gonzales :p Hehehe.. definetely my type of guy! the 2nd player that i luv since Roberto Baggio of Italy. Yummyy! Can't get enough of their actions (on the field or outside the field). Well, i guess in football, you will never know... since the ball is round and easily spin, so is the fact that a player could be a hero today and a loser the next day...
Anyway, my sister is in Rotterdam right now. I am hoping to receive official Euro 2004 merchandises from Portugal...so, yea, just wait and see... i kinda miss her actually. Our room is so empty without her. Come home, nguiks! >:D< And bring lots of "oleh-oleh".
Hehehe...
