Kelapa Gading. Two words that really sound familiar and sweet in my ear. 5 years ago, I called this place my second home...
One tuesday, my best friend Eln told me about this vacancy for copywriter. We both are bachelor of arts, but she believed in my passion for writing. I applied. The next tuesday I got a call from Jakarta. I packed my bag on saturday, missed a flight (thank goodness for Garuda flexibility), arrived on sunday instead. Passed 3 layers of interview on monday morning. Met my college friend Dn. *We never hang out together during college year; I wonder why... I guess I was too busy with my exciting part-time job and student board activities.* During lunch break, she took me around the block; "she is so kind," I thought to myself. I rent a place & went back to Surabaya that day. The following sunday, I'm already in Jakarta. Dn-Hndr-Rwn came to my place and we had simple dinner together. Lols. It was street food from chinese food hawker nearby. It tasted great. It tasted like friendship.
Since then, we've spent a year together, and we would go to Kelapa Gading no less than once a week. I would pick up groceries from Diamond (now becomes Farmer's Market), grab some breads from Home Made (now available in my office building, too), and just stroll around killing time in that big mall.
That memory probably had taken only a small percentage of "hard disk" in my head, but it would be hard to be erased. I guess our memory stop storing important data after certain time ya, because I observed that people tend to develop friendship during the first year of settling down.
First year in school. First year in college. First year in another city or country. After that, everything or everyone else is just a blur, don't you think?
Why does most people find their best friend during school year? Does it mean we stop caring or developing after that? Are we gonna spend the rest of our lives after college by rewinding and remembering the "good ol' crazy years" when we were younger?
What about the present? What about those people who are here with us in the present? I say we should give them a chance to create another "crazy year" moment in the book of our lives :)
